Why do we pay mentors?
Efforts to increase diversity disproportionately fall on the shoulders of underrepresented students, particularly those who face unique challenges due to historical oppression, chronic discrimination and the unfair burden of racial inequality in this country. Mentors invest their time and efforts to diversify future generations of STEM professionals--an effort which benefits us all in STEM--and these efforts are valuable contributions that deserve compensation.
To address this, we pay our mentors for their time, work and invaluable advice to students. To support this work, please donate below. All yearly profits will be publicly displayed and fully transparent. Donations also support the website and logo, costs which are fronted and funded by graduate students. Any donations that surpass our budget needs will be donated to organizations we support and feature on this site, such as Skype a Scientist or Letters to a PreScientist.
